Riya took a dose of sleeping pill, pulled her blanket and closed her eyes for a peaceful sleep. Even after taking those Flunitrazepam tablets she was unable to rest. She felt a rush a blood run into her brain…with much discomfort she tightly closed her eyes telling herself not to open it again.
The next thing she saw a bright sunny day, the curtains where pulled to the corner which let a beam of ray disturb her eyes. She opened her eyes wide welcoming the new day, got up from the bed and walked to the window to find if the computers shop across was open.
Riya gave a silly laugh thinking its only 7.30 am and the shop doesn’t open till 9.00 am. She heard her mom busy working in the kitchen preparing breakfast for her family. Riya knew today was going to be a big day for her and her family. She didn’t want to think about it anymore and escaped to take a shower.
After 20 minutes, she pushed her bathroom door open and came outside wrapped up in her blue towel. Slowly walking towards her closet deciding what to wear …thought the black sari will look good. After a minute she realized that she had packed that sari in her suitcase last night along with her other favorite dresses. Again pushing away those thoughts from her head she took a normal green color sari given by Sanjay last year for her birthday.
As she was combing her hair the aroma of hot Saambar and Pongal took her away. Not able resist Riya went and sat on table, giving glances to her dad and mom. She was looking at them as though she has never seen them for years. Riya “go put flowers to the god” yelled her mom from inside.
She placed the flowers by the god, closed her eyes prayed for the first time in her life, “ dear god…I really don’t know how other people pray to you… but all I wanted to say is to take care of my family when I am gone". As she was praying tears rolled down her cheeks. She quietly sat down to eat; her cell phone ring tone broke the silence in the house. She ran to grab it and stood near the window to notice the computer store open and Karthik standing in front with his red car. 10 minutes passed and she was still standing at the same position thinking what to do. Riya was waiting for the right time to make a move. Her mom went to the bathroom and her dad was busy watching his news. Utilizing the opportunity, she ran to the door with her suitcase and opened the door slowly. As she was about to step out she heard her mom say” Riya, don’t forget to pick up Arjun from school”. Riya hesitated for a minute, but nothing was going to stop her.
She ran down the steps quickly towards Karthik, sat in the car with him…abandoning Sanjay and Arjun, her husband and son.

i guess people just want to run away from their present ...and abandon places, people andthings...
it takes a long time to realise that you cant abandon yourself.

-- who's karthik?
-- why the birthday present from Sanjay?
-- why watch for the computer shop?
Riya sounds too modern a name for a relatively conservative portrayal! (Just me)
um..it would be nice if you could post a Part II for this story.. anyways.. the transition was good.. (btw just came to know why one of the reader asked me not to put my stories in italics, it really pains)
hmm...nice illustration..this shows what is happening in the urban society. this is because of the change in the life style.
great story as always...
and an awesome blog to boot.. keep it up
OMG! I that quite a twist girl! I was thinking that Riya is goin to elope, n that arjun is her kutti brother.. but at the end, u made me react like - "wat the heck!!!"
Anyways, i guess many people are not happy they way they are.. n sometimes they mite either pretend or lie... but.. its tuf to judge if the person who tackles/puts up with unhappiness is stronger compared to the one who makes the decision to seek happiness leaving behind their responsibilities...ultimately, i think happiness lies in the fact when you realise that someone is happy in your company.. so its best done without hurting or disrespecting their feelings :)
Its really cool. I just said " Enna Koduma Saravanan" After finishing the story. It prevented me from reading other posts.

@roshan r-thankkkssss...keep in touch..:)
@prithz-"i think happiness lies in the fact when you realise that someone is happy in your company.. so its best done without hurting or disrespecting their feelings"...totally agree with u preethi...some ppl r just too selfish to think about themselves..n care less about others surrounding them...i was trying to prove that ppl like riya need to consider others emotions n feelings...before deciding anything abnormal...
@raja-hahaha...oops...dont worry..my other stories r not similar :P
@aboorva-thanks for dropping by :)...i guess that depends on the way u take it...i just felt it so ppl can think about their own situations to connect with this...

Well-written. Critique: Try and write bigger stories.
Again! really neat!!
Nice punch in the end,fairly unexpected!!
I think that the frequent references to "Mom" had done the trick!
Rock on! B-)
